2023 Summer Programs

Registration opens February 1, 2023

Our summer programming weeks feature different building projects. In addition to that project, participants will spend time outside playing games and rowing on Fort Point Channel.

Hours  9am-4pm

Price  $500-$600

Location  CBB Boatshop - 21 Liberty Drive, Boston, MA (Seaport)

Age range  Session-dependent. Please refer to session description below.

Session #1 (July 10-14) - Model Boat Building "J.R. Junior - Boat Box"

We piloted this project two summers ago and have spent the past two school years working with hundreds of kids and dozens of teachers to perfect it! Participants will build and take home a 10" model of our famous Periwinkle Junior rowboat design. Our more advanced builders and those who have built this model previously will have the opportunity to add a solar powered motor, a sailing rig, and more advanced finishing techniques. You do not need any previous experience for this project and you do not need to sign-up for any other sessions to take part in this project. Ages 7+; $500.

Session #2 (July 17- 21) - Full-size (10') Wooden Rowboat Building

Participants will work in a team of 5-10 people to build our famous Periwinkle Junior rowboat over the course of the week. We have built hundreds of these beautiful seaworthy boats with kids of all ages and backgrounds. The finished boat(s) will be raffled off to one participant on the last day of camp. You do not need any previous experience for this project and you do not need to sign-up for any other sessions to take part in this project. Ages 7+; $550.

Session #3 (July 24 - August 4) - Build Your Own Boat

During this two week program participants will be guided by expert boat builders and provided all of the necessary tools and materials, as they work in our shop on building a full size (6-8’) version of a boat they designed. At the end of this session we will launch our boats and conduct a "sea trial" on a protected and shallow body of water, under the supervision of our staff. You will walk away with a real boat that you designed and built; so satisfying! Ages 7-9 need to have previous experience building similar projects. Ages 10+ do not need any previous experience; $1200.
