Boston Open Water Rowing

A part of the Hull Lifesaving Museum

Come row in Boston Harbor! Every week of the year rowers head out from the docks at the Fort Point Channel to row pilot gigs in the harbor. These gigs are so named because they would bring ship pilots out to ships as they came into local waters. First one to the ship gets the job. So they're great boats! You can usually find a group going out once or twice on Saturday mornings, once at noon on Sundays, and--during the summer--Wednesday evenings. After a free trial, you will be able to keep rowing by becoming a member of the group.

Hull Lifesaving sponsors three races every year, and rowers from around the Northeast participate. They are an absolute blast. All are welcome! Below are the typical dates of the events.

   Snow Row—1st weekend in March

Head of the Weir—1st weekend in November

   Icebreaker (youth race)—December

For more information, check out the open water rowing on the Hull Lifesaving Museum website.
